PHOTOGRAPHY TIPS AND GEAR
Welcome again :)
In this blog post I will be covering the second part of my two-part guide for primary sources for new and aspiring photographers and filmmakers. The first part mainly focused on primary sources for filmmakers, which can be found here. Here I will be focusing on some good sources for photographers.
DISCLAIMER: These articles are written under my personal opinion. The opinions are based on my personal experience mainly covering what I consider as primary sources of knowledge for my journey in the arts of film making and photography. There are lots of sources out there that give knowledge on these fields and it might be hard to start off with all the choices you have from the great pool of knowledge on the internet. I faced the same problem and I figured that sharing my experience might help beginners in choosing the right material. RIGHT in this case is SUBJECTIVE, one might not quite appreciate some of my choices which is quite reasonable (due to relativity). But also there might be some good sources which I may not have included in these articles so please be sure to leave a comment to let me know. We all learn from one another.
DISCLAIMER II: I am not paid or funded by any of these sites or channels. They inspire and motivate me so this one of the ways I chose to attribute them as a sign of respect and appreciation.
This is a site owned by photographer David Peterson. This site was suggested to me by my dad when I had started photography. The host gives you an opportunity to subscribe for a 21 day guide which covers tips and tricks of photography which has proven to be of great help in improving my photography not only theoretically but practically as well. After the 21 day guide, host David Peterson regularly sends emails to the subscribers for more pro tips in photography. Make sure you visit and subscribe. Knowledge is the key to success.
2. KEN ROCKWELL
Another very useful site. Ken Rockwell is an independent photographer and gear reviewer. This site was also recommended to me by my dad during my early days of photography. Ken Rockwell is prominent in camera and lens reviews which can be very useful when trying to choose the right gear for the type of photography you are into. He is also very kind to show us some different sources such as articles and books that can help in improving photography skills. Make sure to click the links from his site if you decide to buy some lens or camera to support his great cause.
This site is a school indeed. Recommended to me by my photographer friend Bayad Aziz. For those who are new to photography, this is one of the places to start. Full of tips and tricks in any type of photography you can think of; landscape, portrait, street and many other more. You can also subscribe for frequent tips through email which can be very useful for easier access. I have surely learned many tips from the site and it has helped my choose my path towards the different forms of photography. One advantage is that the articles are written by different photographers which are prominent in their particular fields hence we are sure to get tips from the pros of each field.
4. TONY NORTHRUP - YOUTUBE CHANNEL
This channel is one of the simple and yet very useful photography channels on Youtube. Hosts Tony and Chelsea, show us practical examples on different photography techniques which are very useful when you go out to the real world of photography. What I write is just a summary of a summary of a summary of what they do. Make sure you visit and check it out. It will surely be of great help. And yeah, they have a book dedicated for digital photography. If interested make sure you buy it and feed your brain with the delightful knowledge of photography.
5. YOUTUBE
Youtube??? Yes Youtube. As I stated in my disclaimer, there are a lot of good sources out there that can help you gain knowledge when you start with photography and I am sure I cannot mention them all. Youtube has been one of my best sources for both photography and film making. Reviews, tips, techniques and many more can easily be found with just an easy search. Knowledge is everywhere, take your time search and I am sure you will get really useful material from there.
So my dear friends, photographers and filmmakers, know for sure that knowledge is abundant and devotion is all that is needed to search for it. Go out there seek the right knowledge, practice, share and you will be sure to succeed, God willing and I wish you all happy shooting :)
